Why LED Lights? All business owners want to cut costs and boost their profit margin, and reducing your energy bills is a great way to accomplish this.
For many organisations in Adelaide, their lighting solutions are still provided by antiquated incandescent and fluorescent lighting systems. Relying on these kinds of systems represents an exercise in throwing money down the drain.
So why haven’t more businesses already climbed aboard the LED lights train? Well, one of the reasons is that there are still many myths surrounding these lights. We decided to take some of those myths and dispel them for you. Take a look below.
The Arguments Against LED commercial lighting:
For safety reasons, my business premises must be well lit. LEDs simply cannot provide this.
The Truth: Actually, yes they can, and they already do in workplaces and business premises across South Australia. The strength of the light provided by LEDs is just as strong as that provided by incandescents, and often stronger. This is despite using 75% less energy than an incandescent light bulb.
When you use incandescents, 90% of the energy you use is given off as heat energy; when fluorescents are used, this figure drops to 80%. This startling inefficiency is a stark comparison to LED bulbs, which lose only a negligible portion of their energy through heat.
My business simply cannot afford to make the switch at this point in time.
The Truth: Unless your business model is a particularly unusual one, you will class any initiative which reduces costs over the long term as a success. This is precisely what the introduction of LED lights into your business will do.
Projects vary in terms of size and scale, but you can expect the LED lighting solutions to pay for themselves within 12 to 18 months, as you recoup the cost of installation through reduced energy bills. Even after installation is complete, the compact and durable nature of the LED fixtures boosts their longevity when compared with more traditional fluorescents and incandescent bulbs.

We already use low voltage lighting solutions, so it is unnecessary for us to invest in LEDs.
The Truth: Of course, there are high-efficiency, low-energy consumption options available amongst fluorescent and incandescent lighting systems, but the savings your business will receive will be minor when compared to the savings associated with LED solutions. Energy-efficient incandescent and fluorescent bulbs also typically require a warm up period when turned on; this is not the case for LEDs.
What’s more, the life span of an LED lighting system is up to 50 times that of an incandescent system, and up to 10 times that of a fluorescent system. Older lighting systems are packed with easily breakable parts and components, which renders them somewhat impractical in the long term. When it is time to upgrade, an LED system provides a far more efficient, cost-effective, and long-lasting alternative.
We are a green workplace and are already engaged in plenty of initiatives aimed at protecting our planet. We don’t need LED lights.
The Truth: This is a bit of a silly argument. The struggle to protect our planet is not won simply because an organisation is responsible with their recycling. Instead, it involves a concentrated effort from all of us to do what we can to reduce energy consumption and to be positive in safeguarding our future. The introduction of LED lighting within your business premises is another step towards making this happen.
